HOLLY, Mich., Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Detroit Muscle, A CMI-Schneible Group Company, was selected by the Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau (DMCVB) to build their new flagship promotional vehicle -- "The D-Rod" -- with a completion date of Jan. 31st, 2007. In keeping with their mission statement, Detroit Muscle did it again. Their "On-Time, On-Budget" manufacturing philosophy ensured the project would meet the tight timeline for delivery.

The '32 Ford Hot Rod project was the inspiration of Chris Baum, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the DMCVB. The newest Detroit Muscle collaboration was revealed at the Detroit Opera House today at the DMCVB annual meeting, as part of their new campaign to re-brand Detroit. With the support of Larry Alexander, DMCVB President & CEO, the message to Detroit Muscle was clear: Build "The D-Rod" to excite a new audience about Metro Detroit as a leisure and meeting destination.
Baum drew from his lifelong love of hot rods and high performance cars to design this one-of-a-kind "Deuce". His vision for "The D-Rod" included a balance of the "old" and the new. Utilizing the partnership between the DMCVB and its diverse membership -- including DaimlerChrysler -- Baum was able to acquire the newly announced Chrysler 392 Hemi crate engine, backed up by a beefed up four speed overdrive Chrysler 518 automatic transmission. The authentic Pendleton "Del Rio" pattern blanket and snakeskin interior reflects Detroit's Native American heritage, and the brand new, Detroit-made, Ford Motor Company authorized "HRH Dearborn Deuce" reproduction '32 Ford roadster body was chosen to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the most popular classic American car ever built.

With less than four months to complete, the pressure was on. Under the guidance of CMI-Schneible Group Chief Engineer Danny Scott, and Detroit Muscle Project Manager Rick Dyer, the Detroit Muscle team utilized its expertise and all their resources "night and day" to obtain and custom fabricate the remaining components to complement the original design. Every system required high performance calibration and testing by Detroit Muscle's talented staff of fabricators and mechanics.

As experienced Tier 1 suppliers, and A CMI-Schneible Group Company, the Detroit Muscle team utilized their passion for building unique cars, and APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning), to execute this project "On-Time and On- Budget". Their extensive knowledge and technical ability allowed the Detroit Muscle team to assemble the right high performance components into a safe and reliable, street legal vehicle that represents the best of Detroit's past and future to prospective visitors. Another challenging mission accomplished, with passion and style, by Detroit Muscle.

Look for "The D-Rod", along with seven other award-winning custom and high performance vehicles, in the Detroit Muscle exhibit at the 55th Annual Detroit Autorama at Cobo Hall on March 9-11, 2007.
